“We welcome today’s announcement of a new framework for community pharmacy. This multi-year agreement provides much needed long-term certainty, enabling us – and the sector – to make a greater contribution towards the aims of the NHS Long-Term Plan.
“Empowering community pharmacy to deliver patient care through clinical interventions that support urgent care will further establish pharmacies as an integrated part of the health care system. We believe that community pharmacy has a strong role to play in promoting healthy living and preventing long term conditions and we are encouraged that our potential to improve patient outcomes has been recognised.
“However, in light of external pressures felt by the sector, including a high level of business rates and property rental price increases, the commitment to flat funding will inevitably limit the sector’s potential for investment and innovation. At McKesson we remain committed to delivering on the ambitions of the NHS Long-Term Plan by developing innovative new technologies, including digital services, to build on wider opportunities that community pharmacy can offer. We are expanding our digital offer in line with the requirements of today’s patients and developing new channels to improve patient access to services. We will continue to expand our automated dispensing systems to help unlock capacity allowing pharmacists to spend more time with patients.
“We look forward to an ongoing dialogue with Government and NHS England to ensure the full potential of community pharmacy is realised by helping to deliver the long-term vision of healthcare in the community.”
