McKesson UK opens new OPD at Woolwich hospital

McKesson UK, which includes LloydsPharmacy, has officially opened an outpatient dispensary this month at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

Andrew Kerr, healthcare development manager for LloydsPharmacy said “Over the nine years that I’ve been working with acute trusts, the outsourced outpatient pharmacy market has changed and our pharmacists are taking on more advanced clinical activity. Our new partnership with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a fantastic opportunity to deliver better patient care, not only within the outpatient pharmacy but also by providing care closer to patients’ homes. I’m really excited about developing our partnership to deliver great patient care.”

The new LloydsPharmacy outpatient dispensary officially opened at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 21 November 2018. In attendance to cut the ribbon for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was Trust CEO, Ben Travis, pharmacy director, Louise Dark and IT & operations manager, Steve Williams.

Louise Dark, pharmacy director for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, said, “It is crucial for our hospitals to have a dedicated pharmacy service for outpatients that is high quality and efficient. Working in partnership with LloydsPharmacy allows us to prioritise provision of clinical support for patients on wards while still maintaining a high standard of service for our outpatients.”

The opening of the outpatient pharmacy marked the launch of the partnership with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The outsourcing of outpatient dispensing gives hospital pharmacy teams more clinical time on wards.

LloydsPharmacy became the first community provider of commissioned outpatient services for the NHS in 2009. They now have over 50 outpatient pharmacies with Trusts to provide outpatient dispensing (OPD) services.
