For every carrier bag sold in LloydsPharmacy stores, the money is donated straight to Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland. This is one of a number of fundraising initiatives at LloydsPharmacy and Celesio UK.
Leading healthcare company Celesio UK, parent company of LloydsPharmacy, entered into an official partnership with the dementia charities in 2015 after supporting various initiatives before then. Since the government enforced the single-use carrier bag levy last October, LloydsPharmacy has committed to donating all money they receive from bag sales to their chosen charities. As of September 2016, LloydsPharmacy has raised over £45,000.
“We’re delighted that we can put the carrier bag charge toward such a great cause. Our colleagues are really behind the charity partnership and get involved in loads of fundraisers” Said Leisa O’Brien, health safety and environmental co-ordinator at Celesio UK.
“All our LloydsPharmacy plastic bags are environmentally friendly and 100% recyclable. We also offer customers more sustainable bags for life.”
The money raised by LloydsPharmacy goes to support people living with dementia and their carers; to create a better quality of life for those affected by the condition. Fundraising is invaluable to the work of Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland in helping them to provide information and support, fund innovative research, and offer vital services.
Celesio UK is also a proud supporter of Dementia Friends, an Alzheimer’s Society initiative which is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of dementia. To date, Celesio UK has over 4,200 employees signed up as Dementia Friends.
