A LloydsPharmacy store from Lampeter, Wales, was crowned ‘Pharmacy of the Year’ at the company’s annual awards event on Wednesday 29 June, at Whittlebury Hall, Buckinghamshire.
The award, which is sponsored by GSK, celebrates the best stores in the LloydsPharmacy network. Out of over 1500 stores, just seven made it through to the national final, and Lampeter was eventually named as the winner.
The stores came through regional heats to reach the final and each team had the opportunity to put their case forward to win the national award ahead of the evening’s announcement. Earlier in the day, and in between more fun and relaxing activities, the stores were given 30 minutes to present in front of the judges.
After what proved to be an emotionally charged presentation, which moved some of the judges to tears, Lampeter came out on top. It was their community outreach and patient centred approach that ultimately swung the decision in their favour. The theme of their presentation focused on Dementia Friends and Celesio UK’s charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society.
Winning pharmacist Dee Jolly commented: “We’re overjoyed! Winning is such a fantastic achievement for our little Welsh village and it still hasn’t sunk in yet. We spoke about our three fantastic bilingual pharmacists, our superstar sales team and our awesome patients. Building great relationships and providing quality services to our community is right up our street.”
Celesio UK managing director Cormac Tobin made the announcement after a gala dinner and praised the passion of all the teams involved: “Communities rely on the connections they have with our pharmacies and I’m truly proud and humbled that we have so many passionate and inspired colleagues that put patients first.
“The Lampeter team is a perfect illustration of the intangible value of pharmacy. Not only are they a high performing store, but they go the extra mile for our customers and have established really strong, intimate links within the village. It’s great to see them following in the football team’s footsteps by doing Wales proud.”
For the more informal part of the day, the store teams also took part in a fun ‘Apprentice’ themed activity called ‘Passion for Fashion’. They were set the task of designing and creating their own clothing range which they felt represented Celesio values, before showcasing them on a catwalk in the evening.
The judging panel was made up of Hilary Stables, Talent and HR Director (Celesio UK); Andrew Gibb, Retail Operations Director (Celesio UK); David Healy (GSK); Gizem Donmez (GSK).
This is the 15th year that Pharmacy of the Year has been running, and the 15th year that GSK has sponsored the event. Gizem Donmez commented:
“GSK has a special relationship with LloydsPharmacy and Celesio UK. We share the same vision and have similar values that we keep at the heart of everything we do. We sponsor Pharmacy of the Year because it showcases the best in community pharmacy and we’re delighted to be involved – it helps us all to remember that the patient should always be our priority.”
