Dr Thom wins Independent Healthcare Award

Lloydspharmacy’s online doctor service, Dr Thom, has won the award for ‘Best use of Technology’ at the recent Independent Healthcare Awards.

Conceived in 2006, the awards exist to highlight excellence in the independent healthcare sector.

The award was achieved following the development of innovative online management of PGDs.

It overcame many of the issues faced with the traditional paper-based system, such as record storage, clinical audit logistics, recording clinical incidents and tracking medicines requests. More than 500 pharmacies now deploy this system.

Rachel Carrell, managing director for Dr Thom, said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award. Our team is dedicated to enhancing the patient experience.

“While this award is testament to their continued commitment, even more gratifying is that it demonstrates our 600,000 plus patients treated to date are receiving the best possible healthcare through innovative technologies. And that’s why we are here.”

Dr Thom is a provider of both private and NHS medical services. It encourages patients to take control of their own health and wellbeing and at a time that is convenient to them.

Cormac Tobin, group managing director for Celesio UK, said: “Dr Thom provides an invaluable service to patients and pharmacies. The discretion and professionalism shines through; congratulations to all involved.”
