Creating a world-class pharmacy

Cormac Tobin, Managing Director of Celesio UK, including John Bell & Croyden

Our central London pharmacy, John Bell & Croyden, re-opened officially last night. After a £4 million refurbishment programme I believe John Bell & Croyden has gone from a standard pharmacy to a world-class health and wellbeing destination.

With history dating back more than 200 years when John Bell opened his first pharmacy, the Wigmore Street store we know today first opened in 1912 and through the refurbishment we have stripped back the previous store fittings and installed period style features sympathetic to the original ornate columns and cornices. We are now also displaying previously archived pharmaceutical tools and storage vessels, some of which date back over 100 years.

But the refurbishment is not just about aesthetics; we have invested time and money into creating a bespoke store that will entice customers and retain patients, delivering all of their healthcare needs in an exceptional surrounding.

We’ve updated our health clinics which will be open for chiropody, osteopathy, hygienist and skincare treatments. We’ve even introduced a FirstCare pharmacist-led clinic, offering both a walk-in and appointment service for the treatment of minor or routine healthcare issues, from a team of up to five clinically trained professionals, providing patients with another choice of where they can receive medical treatment for a number of ailments within central London.

Our stripped back display units with extra lighting make the customer experience more pleasurable as products are easy to find and view. We’ve also dedicated an area of the store to our Betterlife independent and mobility living aid offering. This gives customers more options to test and try-out mobility products before buying them; we’ve even mounted a British Jaguar XF car boot so customers can see how the larger mobility products can fit into their cars.

Creating, what I believe to be a world-class pharmacy, has taken time, investment and people. My passionate and knowledgeable colleagues throughout Celesio UK, especially those at John Bell & Croyden, have gone to great pains to really deliver a pharmacy that their customer and patient wants; one that not only looks beautiful but is authentic and authoritative. It’s a pharmacy that invests time into its patients and customers; recognising their needs and delivering them in an informed and efficient manner – a world-class pharmacy.
