We had a lady in our hospital who had been ready to go home since Thursday but the regular community pharmacy was unable to facilitate a new box until at least Tuesday. The carers were unwilling to administer medicines from original packs and Kings cannot dispense dosette boxes, putting us in a difficult situation. The delayed discharge would result in her staying in hospital unnecessarily for a further four days; putting her at risk of nosocomial infection, venous thromboembolism as well as all the discomfort being away from their usual environment can cause someone with dementia. Rakesh, a pharmacist in your Upper Norwood store in Sainsbury's, kindly agreed to facilitate a one off dosette box at short notice after hearing our struggles. He exemplified a caring attitude and calm demeanour which made me proud to be a fellow pharmacist. His help allowed us to get the lady out of hospital and back home, where she is best placed to recover.

We are very grateful for Rakesh's support. I believed it was important to highlight some good news and excellent care being provided in these difficult times.”

Echo – an excellent solution to the lockdown problem

I’m not allowed to see him and the GP hadn't had the changes though from the hospital but between the pharmacy, the GP, the hospital, myself (in another household to my Dad) and my Dad (who is not in a good way), we manged to get the right information and update his medication which he received by 5:30pm on the Tuesday. I can only imagine the stresses that everyone working within medicine at this time is going through but they when that extra mile to help my Dad, to help him get over the horrible illness. Fingers crossed he fights this off in the coming weeks, I will be forever grateful for what they have done.”
