If you know a local unpaid carer who deserves recognition for their dedication to others, show your appreciation by nominating them for a National Carers Award.
With 6,826,752 million unpaid carers across the UK and 5,712,398 in England alone , the 2016 LloydsPharmacy National Carers Awards is an opportunity to recognise their tireless commitment.
The hard work of the nation’s unpaid carers saves the UK economy almost £132 billion each year and every day another 6,000 people take on a caring responsibility which equals over 2 million people per year. It is anticipated that the number of carers will increase to 9 million by 2037.
For the third year running LloydsPharmacy, in association with charity Carers UK has launched the awards to highlight the joys and challenges that carers face, often with no thought or reward.
Nominations are open now until 31st March. LloydsPharmacy is encouraging the public to nominate someone they think deserves special recognition for their role as an unpaid carer.
Cormac Tobin, Managing Director of LloydsPharmacy, comments: “We are proud to announce that the LloydsPharmacy National Carers Awards are back for a third year; the awards are an opportunity to give those who quietly and selflessly look after others the recognition that they deserve.
“I’m personally touched and inspired by the great work that carers contribute to our communities, whether providing anything from round-clock-care to running errands, their commitment must not go unnoticed or unrewarded.”
Jade O’Sullivan, Pharmacy Manager at LloydsPharmacy Harborne commented: “With one in five of our customers caring for a friend, family member or neighbour, we know first-hand the significant contribution that unpaid carers provide within our community.
“The awards are an opportunity to give those who quietly and selflessly look after others the recognition that they deserve. I hope that the public get behind the campaign so we can say a huge ‘thank you’ to those who do so much to improve the lives of others.”
Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said: “Caring will touch each and every one of us at some point in our lives, whether we begin caring for a loved one or whether we need care ourselves. The realities of caring for a loved one can be challenging – we hear every day from carers who are facing emotional, physical and financial difficulties as a result of their caring role.
“But we also hear about how rewarding caring for a family member or friend can be. It is important that we take the time to recognise the vital contribution that carers make to families, our communities, and wider society. These awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the unseen support that carers up and down the country provide.”
In total there are six awards, five National Carers of the Year and one LloydsPharmacy Caring Colleague of the year. People can nominate an unpaid carer by visiting lloydspharmacy.com/carersawards or by picking up a form in store.
Winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner held at the Millennium Hotel, Mayfair London on 26th May, and will receive a night’s stay in a luxury hotel and enjoy an all-expenses paid city break in London with one guest each, and £1,000 high street vouchers to spend.
