Cormac Tobin, Managing Director at Celesio UK, including LloydsPharmacy.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak at HSJ’s Rising Stars seminar, an event which recognises and celebrates ambitious rising stars within healthcare.
The ‘stars’ I met humbled me with the great work they have already delivered through collaboration and innovation, from projects that have cut prescription errors by 25 per cent, to redesigning services for patients who have broken their hip, resulting in a shorter average hospital stay.
These are just a couple of examples of best practice from the massive impact that this group has already had on healthcare services across the country.
As well as Celesio UK supporting this event, it is one I personally hold in very high esteem. Under the financial confines of the NHS, we need leaders who can think and act imaginatively about new models of care.
Now that NHS England has set out its Five Year Forward View, the task of integrating primary and secondary care professions for the benefit of patients must begin.
I believe it will take a group of exceptionally talented, driven and enterprising leaders to make this happen. Having spent the day in the presence of many of those individuals yesterday, I am reassured that we are in very safe hands.
